About this event
Super B, Savage Century, 100 (or less)
Weather permitting, let's meet up to ride the WCBC Savage Century. All ride details and distances can be found here (https://whiteclaybicycleclub.org/events/savage/) with requisite online registration here on BikeReg (https://www.bikereg.com/wcbc-savage-century). With WCBC now offering day-of registration via BikeReg, your erstwhile ride leader plans to register/ride provided it's dry (last year's monsoon-like conditions were horrible). Will update this post closer to the event date if there's a need to cancel due to weather.
Final GPX files/route will be provided by the organizers the week of the event; be sure to register ahead of time on BikeReg or have the ability to load a GPX file from your phone to your head unit from the start/finish line if you register the morning of. Suffice it to say the full century is a very hard ride (~9k feet of gain across the 100 miles) but worth it for the scenery and quiet roads.
While it's possible to keep a group together for the first and final thirds of the route, the middle of the century is stacked with dozens of short, steep climbs and any group typically disintegrates across that 35 miles. We'll do our best to keep a group together in the easier sections but be prepared to ride solo or in smaller groupings as the climbs take their toll. Anticipate an A-level effort yielding maybe a 16 mph average; posting this as "Super B" to split the difference. TL;DR version - it's a hard, great ride and we'll also likely ride extended stretches of it solo or in pairs.
Provided the weather cooperates, I'll message registered WCCC riders to confirm a morning roll-out time a day or two before the event. Anticipate that being on the earlier side (e.g. 7:30 am) given the commute to/from Newark, DE.
